Here is a humorous look at a serious problem: Hidden Sugar in Food, by John Oliver.
Research has shown that sugar has many detrimental effects on the body: diabetes, metabolic syndrome, inflammation, allergies, addiction, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia are all linked to elevated blood sugar.
One of the most serious problems with our food supply in America (besides the pesticides, heavy metals, hormones and genetically modified organisms) is the incredible amount of hidden sugar in our food. It is difficult to find a loaf of bread without added sugar or corn syrup added, and remember, wheat is a complex carbohydrate and so already has high amounts of sugar. We know that our sweets and candies have sugar, but it is also hidden in foods we may not expect, like salad dressing, spaghetti sauce, ketchup, and peanut butter, which all have added sugar. The average america eats 75lbs of sugar a year! Elevated blood sugars can increase risk of cancer, and sugar is hidden everywhere.
