BPA is an industrial chemical used to make epoxy resins, found lining food cans, and polycarbonate plastic, Recycle #7. It is also found coating 40% of store receipts. BPA is an estrogen mimicking chemical, and has been linked to many different health problems including breast and reproductive cancers, diabetes, infertility, early puberty, behavioral problems and chemotherapy resistance.
Some companies have committed to having BPA free cans, Trader Joe’s, Eden Organics and Native Forest can be trusted to be BPA free, except for tomatoes, which are too acidic and should be bought in glass containers. Another way to limit your exposure is to NEVER microwave anything in plastic. Get glass food containers, and better yet, don’t microwave, as it makes healthy fats unhealthy.
Decline receipts at major retailers who use thermo-sensitive paper to print. Don’t give your children receipts to hold, or play with, as BPA can be absorbed through the skin.
